Summer is the time for backyard barbeques and sunset watching. It is nice to spend time in the backyard just relaxing. Unfortunately, you could be subjected to uninvited guests in the form of mosquitoes. It is hard to imagine getting through the summer without at least one bite. You might notice though that there are some people who seem to become a veritable “feast” for mosquitoes while others aren’t bothered at all. Turns out, there’s a reason for that. Several reasons:

You’re All Sweaty

Working up a sweat outdoors is going to draw the mosquitoes to you because of lactic acid. That is a byproduct of all that hard work which generates sweat. Your warmer body can also attract mosquitoes. Yes, even on a hot day, they seek out the warmth of a potential host.

Your Blood Type is O

We all have flavor profiles that we enjoy. Look no further than the toppings you put on your frozen yogurt. Mosquitoes also are drawn to a “flavor” when it comes to a blood type. That would be Type O. Anyone with Type O blood emits a distinct odor detectable to mosquitoes. That odor is there whether you’ve just taken a shower or hopped out of the pool.

You Drank a Beer

Relaxing on the back porch with a cold brew might be your ideal way to enjoy the end of a day but it also a way to attract mosquitoes. It goes back to those odors that the pests pick up on and what they’re attracted to.

Does this mean you have to avoid the great outdoors if any of those conditions exist? Not at all. You just have to be a bit more proactive with the bug repellents. BTW, citrus oils and sprays can keep the mosquitoes off.
